Ejisuhene Escapes Mob Justice

Due to the timely intervention of the Buffalo Unit, the Ejisuhene, Nana Aboagye Adjei narrowly escaped when the youth in the area threatened to kill him.

Narrating his ordeal to the Kumasi Circuit Tribunal presided over by Justice C.V. Senu, Nana Adjei alleged that the attack was instigated by his former Krontihene, Nana Kotwi Asiedu Bonsu, in an effort to destool him.

Nana Adjei said following disturbances in Ejisu, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II summoned him. The Krontihene then asked two men to beat the gong-gong to inform the citizens that the time for his destoolment had come, and all must go to Manhyia to ensure his destoolment.

The Ejisuhene said he sent his linguists to the Ejisu Police Station to report the matter. After that, a large crowd gathered at the palace with placards accusing him of selling lands for his personal gain, but it quickly dispersed at the approach of the police.

Nana Adjei said after calm returned, the Krontihene with his cronies followed him to Manhyia with placards and demonstrated on the grounds. But the Ejisu case was postponed, since the Otumfuo was busy. He said the situation became rowdy and he sought refuge at the Regional House of Chiefs. "It was from here that I reported the case to the Buffalo Unit, which came and saved me," he narrated.

Meanwhile, the Krontihene and the two gong-gong beaters have been arraigned before the tribunal for rioting and acts conducive to breach of peace. They pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case has been adjourned to August 26 for further hearing.
