Eighty million-cedi transit quarters for soldiers commissioned

Accra, April, 27, GNA - An 80 million-cedi transit quarters financed by the Ghana Army was on Thursday commissioned at the Fifth Infantry Brigade (5BN) by Lt. Col. E. K. T. Donkor, Minister of Defence.

The junior rank quarters, which was named after Ex-Forces Sgt Major Isaac Frimpong of the Ghana Army, include two big rooms with 60 beds and a mess while that of the officers contains eight bedrooms.

The Army Commander, General Joseph H. Smith said the project would bring relief to soldiers, who travel to Accra for special duties and find it difficult to get accommodation.

Gen. Smith said the construction of the quarters underlines the concern the and commitment of the command to the welfare of soldiers. He urged Commanding Officers to inform their men about the facility for them to take advantage of it.

The Army Commander cautioned that "wilful damage to the property will not be tolerated in any way." General Smith lauded the former Forces Sgt-Major Frimpong saying: "he is one of the most illustrious soldiers this country has ever produced.

"He was an embodiment of discipline, loyalty, dedication and astute professionalism." Ex-Sgt-Major Frimpong advised the officers to be circumspect in their dealings with the junior ranks. He urged soldiers to be loyal and dedicated to duty at all times.
