Eight die, 22 injure in road accident

Huni Ano (W/R), April 17, GNA - Eight people died instantly and 22 others received various degrees of injury when a '207' Mercedes mini bus was involved in an accident at Huniano near Tarkwa on Monday morning.

The vehicle, bearing registration Number GR 3013 Q, was carrying members of 'Christian Divine Church' who attended a four-day Easter convention at Tarkwa and were returning to Babianeha, near Dunkwa-on-Offin.

An eyewitness, Pastor Joseph Henry Asante, Brong Ahafo Regional pastor of the church, whose vehicle was following the minibus said it burst one of its back tyre and the driver lost control, resulting in the crash.

When Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Government Hospital, Tarkwa, where the injured were receiving treatment, eight people were confirmed dead while 22 others were being treated.

In an interview with GNA, the Chairman of the Christian Divine Church Apostle Amos Mensah, consoled the bereaved families and urged members of the church to be strong in the Lord even in the face of this calamity.

He told Christians not to be deterred by the accident from serving the Living God, adding that God in His wisdom would replace the lost ones.
