A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Ansah has ordered eight men, who allegedly robbed two foreigners of a cash amount of 4.3 million CFA, (GH?29,934.86), to be held in prison custody.
Yusif Abubakar, Safiano Mubarak, Abdul Razak Sulemana, Sadique Abubakar, Abdul Razak, Adam Iddrisu, Baba Mohammed and Sule Mohammed did not enter their plea.
The accused would make their next appearance on Tuesday, September 22.
They reportedly shot and injured one of the victims in the arm whilst the other suffered knife wounds.
Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowua told the court that the accused, together with seven others on the run, attacked Oumarou Zorome and Mamoudou Ouedragou, both nationals of neighbouring Burkina Faso, at the Kejetia terminal on June 22, at about 0130 hours.
The pair had arrived from their country and were heading for Alabar, when the robbers, armed with locally-manufactured pistols and knives, struck.
They stabbed Zorome in the arm and seized the of 4.3 million CFA he was carrying, but his colleague Ouedragou, showed bravery and managed to flee with his money stashed in his travelling bag, despite sustaining gunshot wounds.
The prosecution said the victims made a formal report to the police and the accused were arrested from their Alabar and Afful-Nkwanta hideouts upon intelligence.
He said an amount of 150,000 CFA and GH?850.00 was retrieved from one of them, Iddrisu, whiles Yusif was shot and injured after he attempted to snatch the weapon of a police officer.
