Eid-al-Fitr: Ellembelle District Assembly donates food items to Muslim community

The Ellembelle District Assembly of the Western Region has donated food items to the Muslim community within the area to ensure a successful Ramadan.

The items included; 100 bags of rice, 42 boxes of sardine, 24 cartons of tomate paste, and Saudi Dates. The items will be distributed to all the 33 mosques in the district.

The gesture formed part of the Assembly's solidarity to the Muslims as they climax the month of Ramadan with the Eid-Ul-Fitr, the feast of giving alms to the poor and needy.

Muslims across the country started their yearly fasting and prayers (Ramadan) on Thursday, April 24, 2020 and will be climaxed on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

Presenting the items to the Muslim community on behalf of the District Assembly, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh thanked the Muslims for remaining faithful to Allah till date.

He also thanked them for fasting and praying for the district and Ghana at large.

"We are here to donate food items to show our love to you Muslims as you have prayed and fasted for us", he said.

The DCE who is also the Head of the District Security Council, took the opportunity to pledge his commitment to ensure peaceful elections in the area.

He said he would not allow anybody to foment trouble before, during and after the December polls.

"We have been voting for so many times and all these elections have been successful and as I, DCE for this District and as a Head of District Security Council, I will make sure nobody will be allowed to create violence in this year's election", he promised.

He also called on the Muslim youth not to be used by any ambitious politicians to create confusion ahead of the December polls.

Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh urged the Muslims to use the climax of the Ramadan to pray for President Akufo-Addo and government officials to have wisdom to administer this country.

Receiving the items on behalf of all the Muslims, the Sub-Chief of Kamgbunli Islamic community, Nana Odikro Abeka Musah V, gracefully obliged to the request and said the special prayers.

He thanked the District Assembly for the kind gesture and promised to use the items to achieve it intended purpose.

"We thank Allah that the district has thought about us to show this kind of gesture to us", the said.

Nana Odikro Abeka Musah emphasized that, "since I was born I have not seen government distributing food items to Christians it is only this era of Coronavirus pandemic that government is doing it for the Christians but as for we the Muslims, government has been doing it for us especially during this period".

He, therefore, seized the opportunity to warn politicians not to use Muslim youth at Zongos to foment trouble towards this year's General Elections.

He said Islamic religion means peace and underscored the need to see the religion as disciplined and peaceful.

"I will warn politicians not to use the Muslim youth at Zongos to create trouble in this year's elections because we the Muslims are disciplined and peaceful", he stated.

He also charged the Muslim youth to stay away from negative tendencies, since they tarnish the image of Islam.

He bemoaned this year's celebration would not be observed as it has been done always due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The DCE was accompanied the some staff of the Assembly, some activists of the NPP, the media among others.
