The Ghana Police Service has indicated that adequate security arrangement has been made to ensure a peaceful celebration of this year’s Eid ul-Adha on Monday 12 September 2016.

A press release issued by the Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police, Superintended Cephas Arthur said consequently the police are calling on the general public, especially Muslims to celebrate the festival “without any fear or intimidation”.

He explained that adequate personnel will be deployed to all prayer grounds and merry-making joints to protect celebrants and other members of the public but was quick to caution the general populace “especially the youth to respect the laws of the land, mainly the motor traffic regulations, to avoid fatalities”.

He added that “the police will enforce the laws … to ensure a peaceful celebration.”

On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the entire Police Administration, Mr Arthur used the opportunity to wish all Muslims a happy Eid.

He indicated that in case of any emergency, the police can be reached on the short code 18555 for MTN and Vodafone users, or 191 on all networks.
