Educationist laments poor supervision in basic schools

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, Atwima DistrictDirector of Education, at the weekend lamented that poor supervision an unprofessional approach to work by teachers in basic schools contributed to the fallen standards of education in the country.

He said though government had offered incentives to teachers, especially those in the deprived areas, the situation was not encouraging.

Mr Obeng-Darko, who had oversight responsibility for the Offinso District, was speaking to teachers at separate durbars aimed at ensuring quality education, at Nkwaakwaa and Abofour.

Similar durbars were held at Offinso News Town, Akomadan and Nkenkasu all in the district.

Mr Obeng-Darko asked teachers to justify their demand for better conditions of service by improving the country's education.

He announced that adequate measures were being taken to remove deficiencies in the system to facilitate teaching and learning in the district.

Mr Obeng-Darko called on parents to corporate with school authorities to assist teachers to work assiduously.

Mr Kwame Agyemang Opoku, Chairman of Offinso District branch of the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools, expressed dissatisfaction about the inability of education officers to sanction non-performing and apathetic teachers.
