The Chairman of the Education Committee in Parliament, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, has expressed concern over the troubling trend of abandoned construction projects in many senior high schools across the country.

Addressing the issue following visits to several schools, Nortsu-Kotoe noted that many institutions had important infrastructure projects, such as classrooms, dormitories, and other essential facilities — that have been abandoned in their uncompleted state.

“On our rounds in secondary schools, we discovered that there are a lot of abandoned projects in the various secondary schools, including dormitories, classrooms, assembly halls, and poor furniture,” he said.

He indicated that the stalled projects are crucial to the development and improvement of education in the country.

The Akatsi North lawmaker shared the view that completing these abandoned infrastructure projects in senior high schools would significantly contribute to the successful elimination of the double-track system at the second cycle education level.

He therefore urged the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to complete the projects which have been abandoned at various levels in some senior high schools across the country.

“We are appealing to government to make sure that they complete all these projects to enable us eliminate the double track. Some of the schools we went to, if those projects were completed there will be no double tracking in those schools. So, we are recommending to government to complete those projects to improve access to secondary education,” he added.
