The Edina Traditional Council has launched the annual Bakatue festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Edina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region.
The historic festival is on the theme: ‘Cleanliness Is Life, Let All Clean Our Environment’.
Launching the festival, the Paramount Chief of Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, expressed concern about the way filth was having negative health effects on the local economy.
He noted that “when visitors travel from around the world and to the area and find the town in the filth, will be a disgrace as well as prevent them from coming into the area, a situation which would collapse the tourism sector.”
The President of Groupe Nduom, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, hinted that the company has its roots in Elmina and would do everything to ensure that poverty is reduced in the area.
Dr Nduom underscored the need for parents not to engage their children in trading to the neglect of their education to enable them to contribute their quota towards the development of their mother Ghana.
“Parents must lay a proper foundation for their children by sending them to school to become responsible people in future,” he underscored.
He called for unity among the people of the area to ensure total development.
