The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has formally petitioned the Ministry of Agriculture to prioritize the transformation of the Ohawu Agricultural College into a fully-fledged University of Agriculture.
In a Facebook post on August 2, 2025, Edem Agbana disclosed that he submitted a letter to the ministry this week, drawing attention to what he described as the longstanding neglect of the institution by successive governments.
“There is no better time to honor the promise of transforming this institution into a fully-fledged University of Agriculture than during the next four years under President Mahama’s leadership We believe the President can, and he will”, he said.
Agbana noted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made commitments in 2016, 2020, and 2024 to elevate the college, and stressed his personal resolve to help fulfill that promise.
“As the representative of the chiefs and people of Ketu North, where this prestigious college is located, I consider it my duty to lead the charge and do the necessary legwork to make this vision a reality,” he stated.
He also expressed optimism following what he described as an extensive discussion with the Minister of Education, whom he said is aligned with the vision for transforming the college.
“His commitment offers renewed hope that this long overdue transformation can finally be delivered,” he indicated.
The MP assured his constituents that advocacy for the upgrade will continue until the goal is achieved.
"To the chiefs and people, I say this: we will not relent in our advocacy. We are determined to see this promise fulfilled, not merely as a political commitment, but as a strategic investment in the future of agriculture, education, and the overall development of our region,” he said.
