Economic Forum opens at Akosombo

A three-day brainstorming session on the "Budget and the Way Forward" began on Tuesday at Akosombo under the chairmanship of the Minister of Finance, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo.

This was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the President and signed by Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Government spokesperson.

The event, the first of its kind in the country, has brought together the New Patriotic Party's economic management team and Ghanaian economic and financial experts working with the world Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the International Finance Corporation.

Participants will discuss this year's budget especially and the general direction of the economy.

The statement said participants at this all Ghanaian session, including the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Dr K.Y.Amoako in an extra-ordinary display of patriotism are all in the country at their own expense and are offering their services free of charge.

The Finance Minister, the statement said praised the spirit of voluntarism and patriotism of the participants.

He expressed confidence that the outcome would be an economic programme very much conscious of the fast changing global economic situation but with the interest of the Ghanaian and the economy as the supreme consideration.
