A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Ato Ahwoi, who was part of the Economic Management Team under the Jerry John Rawlings and Professor Atta Mills regimes, has argued that today’s economic forum is not an indication that the NDC lack ideas.
He said ex-President Rawlings and John Kufuor also organized such economic fora to brainstorm on the way forward to enable them prudently manage the economic fortunes of the country.
Mr. Ahwoi was replying critics of the government, who were implying and spreading falsehood that the forum meant that the government has lost its grip on the economy.
According to him, no one is a repository of knowledge and, therefore, there is nothing wrong with government reaching out for fresh ideas to revive the nation’s economy.
Mr. Ato Ahwoi, according to media reports, also noted that similar conferences were held in 1998 and 2002 under the erstwhile Rawlings and Kufuor administration, which yielded positive results; saying, it is not a crime to share ideas.
The four-day conference, starting today, Tuesday May 13, 2014 in Akosombo in the Eastern region, is to find practical solutions to minimizing the economic challenges of Ghana.
Apart from the President and his Vice, members of the Economic Management Team, former Finance Ministers, representatives of political parties, members of the academia and other interest groups are expected to attend the four-day economic forum.
