Ebola: ECOWAS must intensify eradication efforts - Mahama

ECOWAS Chairman, John Dramani Mahama has called for an intensified and more coordinated efforts towards tackling the Ebola scourge.

Mr Mahama who hosted a Coordination meeting of ECOWAS Heads of State on the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease in Accra Friday, has acknowledged the contributions of all whose efforts have led to the gains achieved so far but asked the leaders not to be complacent.

“We need to work together with stronger regional and global leadership with integrated multi-sectoral efforts to achieve concrete and impactful gains, to contain the epidemic in the affected countries and to prevent further spread,” he appealed.

The high-level meeting is expected to take stock of the various partner and stakeholder initiatives within the context of an integrated regional response to the epidemic.

It is also to afford stakeholders the opportunity to discuss an integrated regional response to the disease.

They would also deliberate on effective coordination of the Ebola Response Initiatives and provide a platform for the sharing of information on the situation in affected member states.

President Mahama has projected that the fight against the disease should be won by 2016.
