Eastern Regional Policy fair closed down to mourn Mills

The Eastern Regional Policy Fair, which was supposed to end on Thursday, was closed on Wednesday, to honour the late President for his invaluable contribution to national development. The fair exhibited policies, projects and activities of Municipal, District, Government Departments and Agencies for the past three and half years under the administration of Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, announced the sudden end of the fair at Koforidua on Wednesday.

He said: “We have lost the person whose ideas and agenda culminated into this policy fair, and so the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has decided to end this fair to show our respect to our former president, even in death.”

However, most of the heads of departments, municipal and district chief executives and members of the public, who usually participated in the fair, were even absent.

The national flag at the Jubilee Park, where the fair was held was flying at half mast, while the grounds were re-decorated in black and red colours to reflect the mood of the nation.

The exhibition stands of almost all the district assemblies were empty and the usual reception that greeted visitors was missing, as people were seen in pensive moods discussing the tragic incident that has befallen the nation.

Most of the people who came to the fair prior to its closure were in red, black or brown clothing to show their grief.**
