Eastern Region gets 43 new police stations

The Police Administration has created 43 additional police stations, 11 district headquarters, and two divisional headquarters in the Eastern Region, this year.

At the national level, the Police Administration has created 309 police stations, 79 district offices and 30 divisional offices.

Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Police Visibility Unit, said this when he inaugurated the new Suhum Police District Headquarters and the upgraded Nankese Police Station, which was upgraded from a police post.

Under the Police Visibility Programme, the Police on daily basis deploy 5,000 personnel all in efforts to get the Police closer to the people and help reduce crime.

He said the Police Administration was making adequate preparation that would ensure peaceful campaigns and elections in 2016, and urged the public to help the Police to achieve that.

The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Mr Fredrick Opare Ansah, appealed to the Police to be fair to all parties when it comes to dealing with political violence.

Mr Samuel Kwabi, the Municipal Chief Executive of Suhum, assured the Police Service of the continuous support of the Municipal Assembly, and said the assembly had provided a site for the Police to be used to build a headquarters.

The Chief of Suhum, Osabarimah Ayeh Kofi, appealed to the Police to be cautious in the handling of the Akooko riots to help peace to prevail in the area.

In a welcoming address, the Eastern Regional Commander of Police, Mr Akuuribah Yaagy, cautioned the Police not to allow the support they get from communities to blur the distinction between enforcement of the law and cooperation.
