Easter is a call to higher moral standards - Catholic Bishop

The Most Reverend John Kobina Louis, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Accra, has stated that Easter is a call to higher moral standards, urging individuals to turn away from sinful behaviors and embrace a life of virtue and holiness.

"Easter is not merely a time for festivities, but a sacred period that honors the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins," he said.

He encouraged Christians to use the Easter season as an opportunity to seek forgiveness, pursue personal transformation, and align their lives with the teachings of Christ.

In his Easter message on Wednesday, the Most Rev. Louis emphasized that the season holds profound spiritual significance, reminding believers of the ultimate sacrifice made by Christ and the promise of eternal life.

"By embracing the true essence of Easter, Christians can find renewed hope, strength, and purpose in their faith journey," he said.

Referring to 1 Corinthians 15:12-14,17-20, he highlighted the message: "No resurrection, no Christianity! And no Easter, no (Christian) feast!"

"For Christians today, Easter should signify hope, renewal, forgiveness, holiness, and unwavering faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the cornerstone of Christian belief," he added.

He further explained that the resurrection of Jesus carries immense spiritual significance, serving as a beacon of hope amid suffering and uncertainty.

"The resurrection assures believers that death is not the end, and through faith, there is the promise of eternal life," he said.

"It encourages Christians to live lives of purpose, resilience, and unwavering faith, knowing that they are part of a greater divine plan."

The bishop also stressed that the resurrection brings unity because through the cross, God created, from all the races of the world, one common race and one family for Himself.

He urged the people to become ambassadors of peace in the world.

"All should endeavor to fight against evil in our lives. Let us strive to become better Christians and renewed citizens, ensuring that the peace of the risen Christ remains in our hearts," he concluded.
