Eagle Party Chairman Calls For Areyeh's Resignation

The National Chairman of the eagle party, Alhaji Jamatutu has called on the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Dr Josiah Aryeh to resign immediately from his post to preserve the integrity of the party.

Alhaji Jamatutu was reacting to recent media reports that the NDC guru has been involved in an illegal power connection. According to the press report, personnel of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on a routine check at Dr Aryeh’s residence at East Legon in Accra discovered that power has been tapped to the house illegally and that Dr Aryeh has not paid any bill since 2000. Even though Dr Aryeh denied knowledge of this issue and accused the NPP government of orchestrating this outrage, latest reports indicate Dr Aryeh has paid part of the accumulated bill.

Alhaji Jamatutu noted that since the NDC has declared probity and accountability as its watchword, the honourable thing for its General Secretary to do is to resign until his innocence or guilt is proven. He stated that over the time, the public has developed a perception about the NDC that it is a party which condones wrongdoing and criminality. Impression

He said “Since 1992, the NDC has always jumped to the defence of its members, even when they were clearly in the wrong, and this creates the impression that the NDC supports crime and wrongdoing”.

He noted that the NDC is now fighting hard to uplift its image in the eyes of the public following their humiliating defeat in the 2000 elections and the mere fact that their General Secretary is embroiled in this affair does not augur well for the party.

He said “If Dr Aryeh is an honourable man, then he should resign to save the party any embarrassment” he said. He also called on the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NDC to sack Dr Aryeh if he refuses to resign since he would become a liability to party in future.
