ECG workers angry over non-payment of insurance premium

When we see Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) workers up on the electric poles trying to ensure that we get better supply of electricity, and some of them dutifully attending to our domestic electrical problems, little do we know that they were not covered by insurance.

The ECG workers, at the peril of their lives attend to the various electrical problems across the country because they themselves thought they were covered by insurance.

However, the ECG workers are now very livid and feel betrayed by their management over the non-payment of their insurance premiums.

One of the workers who spoke to The Informer said, “Members of management do not engage in these dangerous undertakings, so they do not see the need to be prompt in paying these premiums”.

The source also indicated that many of the workers are angry because the insurance premium had been deducted, but not paid to the insurance company.

On-going investigations by this paper indicate that, staff members of ECG are bracing themselves up for a massive demonstration and strike actions, in protest of why their insurance premium is not being paid.
