Police in the Eastern Region is on the look out for one Emmanuel Djamatey, who is reported to have instigated last Friday’s violent demonstration in Somanya.

Hundreds of angry residents stormed the ECG office in the area and vandalized parts of the building after demonstrating over what they described as killer electricity bills.

The angry residents reportedly caused damages to a pickup truck belonging to the state power distributor and other properties at the offices of the ECG.

An angry resident Philip Tetteh Padi who spoke to Kasapafmonline.com Friday said the ECG officials were going around the community disconnecting power to homes without explaining to indigenes the sudden ballooning in their bills, hence the protest.

“I paid GHC100 last month, but this month they brought me a bill of GHC4,500. We cannot pay such huge bills. We have embarked on a peaceful protest to seek answers for the quantum and shocking changes.”

However, the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer for the Police, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has asked the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of one Emmanuel Djamatey, a suspected ring leader of the violence.

“Following the incident there, some personnel were deployed from the Regional Police Headquarters and we are looking for the prime suspect, the ring leader, one Emmanuel Djamatey. He was the brain behind the demonstration…we need to get this person arrested.
