ECG abrogates contract with four companies

THE Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has abrogated its contract with four meter-reading companies in the country for inefficiencies in their operations this year.

The companies are in the Big Ada, Akwatia, Bekwai and Asankragwa districts in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and Western regions respectively. The company is currently reviewing the contracts of the other 58 companies and will terminate those who fail to meet its targets.

Additionally, 30 employees of the company, including some managers, have been dismissed for theft, corruption, illegal connections, misconduct and other offences.

Mr David Vukania, the Director of Customer Service of the company, who disclosed this in an interview in Accra, said the move forms part of the company’s resolve to eschew inefficiencies and lapses in order to bring sanity into its operations.

Throwing more light on the abrogation of the contracts, Mr Vukania declined to mention the names of the companies involved but said new ones have been taken on.

He said the company has taken note of the persistent complaints from the general public in connection with wrong billings and other issues confronting them.

Mr Vukania hinted that more contracts are likely to be abrogated by the end of the year since some of the standards of the companies being examined are nothing to write home about.
