The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has provided an update on the number of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers reportedly missing at the Tema Port.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Jinapor disclosed that the number of "missing" ECG containers—shipments of cables and other items procured by the company—has now been reduced to 23.

This statement follows a recent announcement by his ministry that over 1,300 containers previously reported missing in March 2025 had been located, leaving only 54 unaccounted for.

The minister informed Parliament that the challenge with locating the containers was due to poor transportation practices under the previous government.

“The first point is that those containers shouldn’t have been purchased in the first instance. That is the first answer to the missing containers. Those containers shouldn’t have been purchased,” he asserted.

“Mr Speaker, the second thing… they were poorly transported. That is why in March 2025, we decided that we wouldn’t adopt that approach again. And so, having adopted this SAP system since March 2025, we are now seeing a remarkable improvement in how the containers are handled,” he added.

Jinapor also stated that the government has directed ECG to only procure critical items moving forward.
