The Energy Commission is accusing the Electricity Company of Ghana of illegally selling electricity metres.
The Commission says it notified the ECG last year to stop the sale of metres as an international practice for power supply. But the ECG is yet to comply.
A member of the Energy Commission Board, Charles Kofi Wayo, told XYZ Business the Commission is referring the matter to the Energy Ministry to stop the ECG from selling metres. “They are selling metres and the big men over there, they are involved and nobody will arrest them. The price they are charging for electricity is criminal,” he alleged.
Mr. Kofi Wayo said the Energy Commission has developed a document to educate electricity consumers on their rights and procedures for seeking redress.
He accused the managers of EC of being uninterested in the protection of the consumers.
