Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has laid into the Electoral Commission describing its equipment and system as “bogus” in an extraordinary rant against the electoral body.

Mrs Rawlings condemned the EC for violating Section 9 of CI 94, which she said “obligates her to actually ask us to come and check our forms if there’s an anomaly”.

The Charlotte Osei-led EC on Monday disqualified 13 out of the 17 aspirants who filed nominations to contest in the 2016 general elections, provoking instant anger among those affected.

Mrs Rawlings who had filed as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) was also disqualified.

Speaking to the BBC on Wednesday, Mrs Rawlings insisted her party would not back down on the matter unless her name is reinstated by the Commission.

On reasons why her nomination was rejected, the EC explained that one Salifu Abdulai from the Nanumba South District with Voter ID no: 6617004814 registered on March 28, 2012 but also registered on August 4, 2014 with Voter ID no: 2126900022 and therefore was disqualified.

Mrs Rawlings wondered why the EC’s biometric machines could not detect the anomaly and allowed her subscriber to register twice.

She stressed, “I want my name back on the list that I am standing as a presidential candidate for the National Democratic Party; she has illegally remove my name from it. She should do what is right and legal in this country”.

Dr Edward Nasigiri Mahama of the People’s National Congress (PNC); Nana Agyenim Boateng, popularly known as Gyataba, United Front Party (UFP); Kofi Akpaloo, Independent People’s Party (IPP); Kwabena Adjei, Reformed Democratic Party (RDP); Henry Lartey, Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and Richard Nixon Tetteh, Unity Development System Party (UDSP) were all disqualified.
