The restored original logo of the Electoral Commission (EC) better communicates the functions of the election management body than the new one introduced by the now-impeached Chairperson Charlotte Osie, a Deputy Commissioner of the EC, Dr Bossman Asare has said.
“The old one we all know of communicated the works and functions of the EC better than the new one introduced and, so, it was necessary that we reverted to the old logo,” he told Kwabena Prah Jnr., host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday, 5 December 2018.
He further assured Ghanaians that the reversal to the old logo will not cost the Commission a huge amount.
The Jean Mensa-led EC on Tuesday, 4 December 2018 reverted to the commission’s old logo, effectively doing away with the new one instituted by Mrs Osei.
A memo to that effect circulated by Mrs Mensa at the election management body said: “Effective 4 December 2018, the original logo of the Electoral Commission which bears the Coat of Arms and has a ballot box showing the hand casting its vote, has been restored.”
“The core values of the Electoral Commission, namely integrity, fairness and accountability have from today also been restored.”
In the memo, Mrs Mensa said: “All communications from the electoral commission must from today be made on the letterhead bearing the original logo of the commission as appears on the face of this letterhead…”
