The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has deferred to next year all forms of registration of new voters.

This is one of the decisions taken at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Jean Mensa, the Commission’s Chair and in attendance were all registered political parties in Ghana.

The parties were represented by three members each.

The meeting agreed that the second phase of the limited voters’ registration, which was held in the districts for the December 27 referendum, should continue next year.

The continuous voters’ registration at all district offices of the Commission has also “been deferred to next year”.

“The modalities and the times would be announced after the Commission has consulted with the political parties, as required by law.”

A statement issued after the meeting, however, announced that an exhibition of the 2016 and 218 provisional voters register will be done from Thursday, October 25 to Wednesday, October 31 at all polling stations of the carved-out areas for the referendum.

There was also an agreement for a working group to start nationwide consultations for the implementation of the Representation of the People Amendment Act (ROPAA).
