E/R registers more than 1000 in half year

The Eastern Regional Division of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) registered 1,332 vehicles within the first half of this year.

The vehicles are made up of 766 salon cars, 440 light commercial vehicles, 70 buses and coaches, 15 heavy trucks, 31 articulated trucks and 10 motor cycles.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Stanley Nordor, the Regional Director of DVLA, said the vehicles that were registered had passed the inspection procedures and had no faults.

He said that out of 621 people who applied for driver’s licenses within the period, 532 passed and received their license.

The Regional Director said vehicles that came to the office for registration and had no seat belts were turned down but he did not give the figures involved.

He pleaded with passengers to check if the vehicles they board had seat belts for the driver and passenger seats because they could also be prosecuted if they do not wear their seat belts.

He called on all stakeholders in the motor vehicle industry to work together to help reduce accidents on the roads and expressed his satisfaction that road accidents in the region had reduced considerably.

He urged the drivers to continue to drive carefully and help to make the region accident free.
