Major cities in Ghana have been plunged into darkness due to a shortfall in power generation, Starr FM has gathered.

A deep throat source within GRIDCO, the power transmitter, disclosed to Starrfmonline.com that there has been a major shortfall in power generation in the Western Power Enclave (Aboadze thermal plant) in the Western region causing the intermittent power outages.

According to Starrfmonline.com sources, Aboadze which generates a significant portion of the nation’s power has seen over 300 MW shortfall.

According to the source, Ghana is likely to fall on Ivory Coast for emergency power.

Several parts of the country, including Bolgatanga, Kumasi, parts of Accra and Takoradi, Volta region and the Northern region were thrown into darkness Monday evening. Parts of Eastern region are also experiencing the severe power outages.

No official reason has so far been given for the major power outage. This is the second time that the country has experienced a major blackout in the last two months.
