Dumsor hits Supreme Court

The erratic supply of electricity, popularly called 'dumsor', continues to bedevil the country, with some parts experiencing blackouts.

The apex court of the land, the Supreme Court of Ghana, is the latest notable establishment to be affected by 'dumsor'.

The Supreme Court was reportedly thrown into darkness during proceedings on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

According to Accra-based GHOne TV, the lights went out on two occasions during proceedings on Wednesday, plunging the nation's apex court into darkness.

"Dumsor in Supreme Court as lights go off twice today during court proceedings," part of a news alert shared by the media house on X reads.

Meanwhile, organisers of the #DumsorMustStop protest have announced significant changes to their planned demonstration against the persistent power outages plaguing the nation.

The demonstration, which was initially set for May 25, 2024, at Revolution Square near the Jubilee House, has been postponed to June 8, 2024.

As reported by 3news.com, the conveners, Selorm Dzramado, Yvonne Nelson, and Henry Akoto, have indicated that the gathering will now commence in front of the University of Ghana, with participants marching to the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout.

Upon reaching the roundabout, speeches will be delivered from a specially erected podium before the crowd disperses.

The revised timing for the vigil is from 2 pm to 10 pm, a shift from the originally planned 8 am start.

This development comes after the Ghana Police Service sought legal intervention to prevent the protest at Revolution Square.

A legal petition filed on May 20, 2024, requested an injunction against the protest, citing concerns for public order and safety.

The court's decision on the police's application is expected on May 24, 2024, at 9 am.
