Drivers reject AMA embossment

A group of drivers in the capital have warned the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) not to go ahead with its planned mandatory embossment of commercial vehicles with the Assembly’s stickers.

City authorities say the branding of such vehicles will lead to their easier identification and tracking down in the face of rising crime with the use of cars. The directive is said to come into effect March 1, 2106.

But the spokesperson for the Ghana Committed Drivers’ Association, Francis Appiah, has called on all transport owners to resist the move.

In an interview with Accra News Saturday February 13, 2016, Mr Appiah said the latest stickers being introduced for drivers by the AMA are a scheme to rip them off.

According to him, commercial vehicle owners were already burdened by two separate dues to the Assembly, and could not take on a third.

“We will not agree to this today or tomorrow. We can’t allow AMA to have three different stickers on our cars,” Mr Appiah swore.

He added that vehicle owners were already grappling with insurance hikes and would not yield to the AMA’s scheme to rip us off.
