Drivers kick against erection of ramps at Swedru and Winneba

Agona Swedru (C/R), Jan 16, GNA- The executives of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have expressed concern about the erection of speed ramps on the Swedru-Winneba and Swedru Apam roads by the residents.

In separate interviews with newsmen at Agona Swedru, Mr Isaiah Otoo, Chairman of GPRTU Swedru/Accra branch, appealed to the police and the Ghana Highway Authority to remove the ramps. Mr Otoo said reports made by the drivers plying Accra-Swedru and Swedru-Accra indicated that their tyres and shock absorbers were getting damaged.

He said the residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom have erected six ramps while Gomoa Brofoyeduru and Mangoase have also erected six ramps each. Mr Owusu appealed to the drivers who ply on these roads to exercise restraints while the executives work for the removal of the ramps.

Mr Justice Kwabena Asante, Swedru Divisional Police Commander said the erection of the ramps was illegal and that the police would consult the Ghana Highway Authority so that the right thing was done. Mr Asante said the people do not have the right to erect the ramps and that it would be appropriate to consult Ghana Highway Authority to erect them.
