Driver’s mate jailed three years for theft of a traveler’s bag

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a driver’s mate to three years imprisonment for the theft of a bag belonging to a traveler at the Kumasi/Tamale lorry station.

Mohammed Awudu pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Sylvanus D’almeida told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, that the convict committed the crime on April 3 and it took the alertness of an official of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to prevent him from escaping with the stolen bag.

Mr Mohammed Dauda became suspicious when he saw Awudu carrying the traveling bag, confronted and demanded how he came by it.

Unconvinced by the convict’s explanation, he handed him over to the police at Oforikrom.

There, he confessed stealing the bag at the lorry station and when opened, it was found to contain ladies wear. The owner has not yet been traced.**
