The Deputy Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has said that the driver of the late NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, collapsed upon hearing the news of his boss’s passing.
According to him, the driver had taken the party’s Vice Chairman to the Air Force Base to board the helicopter, being the last time he saw him.
Tanko Computer further stated that following the collapse, believed to have been caused by the shocking nature of the news, the driver was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“In fact, I'm told his driver collapsed because he drove him to the Air Force Base. He hadn't even reached the office because of traffic when this news broke. So, as soon as he got down and they hit him with the story, he collapsed.
“They had to rush him to 37 Military Hospital because he couldn’t believe this. He drove the man to the Air Force Base, little did he know that was going to be the last thing he was going to do,” he said on Metro TV on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region as the officials were on their way to an event at Obuasi.

The names of the perished are: Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Limuna Muniru, Ag Dep National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Samuel Aboagye, NADMO Deputy Director-General.
Also confirmed are the deaths of 3 Airforce officers, namely Squadron Leader Peter Anala (the pilot); Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
