Driver in fatal accident granted bail

The Kaneshie District Court One has granted bail in the sum of GHC70,000.00 with two sureties to a driver who allegedly knocked down and killed a pedestrian.

The plea of the accused, John Takyi, was not taken as a copy of the docket has been forwarded to the Attorney General for advice.

Takyi is facing charges of careless and inconsiderate driving as well as negligently causing harm.

The court has ordered Takyi to make his next appearance on June 25, 2025.

Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah stated that on May 10, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m., Takyi was driving a Kia Sorento with registration number GR 2926-21.

He reported to the police that he was driving from Odorkor towards Mallam along the Dr. K.A. Busia Highway.

Upon reaching a section of the road at Odorkor Water Works, he allegedly knocked down a pedestrian, Kojo Andoh, aged about 50, who was crossing the road.

According to the prosecution, Andoh was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officer on duty.

Chief Inspector Apewah stated that the body was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

After investigations, Takyi was charged with the offences and brought before the court.
