Driver fined GH¢420.00 for ignoring police signal to halt

The Nyinahin Magistrate Court has sentenced a driver to a fine of GH¢420.00 for ignoring a signal by the police to stop.

Kwaku Kyei, who faced an additional charge of failing to produce a driving license, would spend 68 days in prison in default of the payment.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Inspector Owusu Sekyere told the court presided over by Mr Sam Nibi Medjida, that, Kyei was arrested on Monday, April 16, whiles driving a Toyota mini-bus towards Bibiani from Kumasi.

On reaching Nyinahin, he was flagged down by officers of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) on routine road check, but he refused and sped off.

He said the police chased him and arrested him, after which he could not produce his driving license when demanded.**
