Driver before court for crossing Presidential Convoy

Accra, March 15, GNA - Joseph Ehiagiator, Driver, was put before an Accra Circuit Court on Monday for crossing the Presidential Convoy. Mr Ehiagiator was charged for failing to stop when the Police signalled him to stop and give way to the Presidential Convoy; dangerous driving; causing road obstruction; wrongful overtaking and failing to produce a driving licence.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah granted him bail in the sum of 60 million cedis.

The accused person would reappear before the court on March 22. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Michael Quarm told the court that Ehiagiator was driving a B.M.W. car from the Kanda area towards the 37 Military Hospital on March 12.

Inspector Quarm said the accused person failed to stop when a Police despatch rider leading the Presidential Convoy towards the Tetteh Quarshie round about signalled him to stop.

He said on reaching the 37 Traffic Lights, the accused person realised that a vehicle coming from his direction had been stopped by a Police Motorcade, but he deliberately over took it. The Prosecution said in an attempt to do the overtaking, the accused person nearly knocked down the Despatch Rider, who was leading the Presidential Convoy.

Inspector Quarm said the accused person on realising the mess he had caused, sped off, but the Police gave him a hot chase until he was arrested and detained at the Airport Police Station.
