Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has stepped in to cover the full cost of surgery for a 9-year-old boy with serious mobility challenge.

This follows an earlier pledge by the minister to cover the boy’s surgery costs in order to improve his movement and help restore his ability to walk properly.

A philanthropist identified as Bones Man TV on August 3, 2025, in a Facebook post gave an update on Dr Omane Boamah’s gesture.

He noted that the minister, after his promise, has maintained contact with the family of the boy to ascertain the progress of the scheduled surgery.

“Ghana's defence minister, Dr Omane Boamah has generously paid for the entire cost of the surgery for 9-year-old Setor, who currently walks to school using a plastic chair. A few weeks ago, I reported that the defence minister had pledged to cover Setor's surgery costs. Not only did he honour his commitment, but he also maintained regular contact with the boy, calling almost daily to check on his well-being despite his busy schedule,” he said.

He added that the child is scheduled to undergo surgery soon.

The philanthropist commended Dr Omane Boamah, expressing profound gratitude for his show of kindness towards the child.

“Dr Omane Boamah's kindness and compassion are truly remarkable, and serves as evidence of his humility, love, and care throughout this process. Despite the fact that we have not met him yet, he invited me to his ministry, where he fully paid for Setor's surgery. He also committed to providing additional support for the boy,” he added.

“In my eight years of charity work, this is the first instance of a sector minister demonstrating such genuine love and concern. Dr Omane Boamah is indeed a unique individual. Setor has now been scheduled for surgery and will soon be able to walk independently again. Please join me in expressing gratitude to Dr Omane Boamah by sharing this post, as his actions have gone above and beyond,” he said.

This disclosure has generated heartfelt appreciation from Ghanaians, who have since been commending the minister for covering the child’s surgery costs.
