A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, has predicted that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will become the next President of the Republic of Ghana.
Dr Zaato made the prediction while speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Saturday, October 4, 2025, during a discussion on Ghana’s political landscape and the prospects of leading political figures ahead of the next general elections.
According to him, Dr Bawumia’s rising popularity and the perceived viability of his candidature make him the most likely person to succeed President John Dramani Mahama.

He argued that even though Dr Bawumia lost the 2024 general elections, the Vice President has managed to maintain strong public appeal and political relevance within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and across the country.
When asked whether Dr Bawumia’s popularity still translates into electoral viability in light of the 2024 election results, Dr Zaato maintained that his assessment remained unchanged.
“Based on everything you have just said, I can say without any equivocation that the next president of the Republic of Ghana will be essentially Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.

Dr Zaato’s remarks add to the ongoing national debate over the political future of Dr Bawumia and his chances of returning to the presidential race after the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 polls.
