Dr Bryan Acheampong begins NPP flagbearer journey with prayer

Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, began his journey toward the NPP flagbearership with a solemn visit to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, where he received prayer and anointing, reaffirming the spiritual foundations that anchor his leadership and decision to contest in the 2028 elections.

In a post shared on his X page, he wrote, “Today, I visited the Moderator and some members of the General Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. I reaffirmed the spiritual roots that have shaped my values, my leadership, and my sense of purpose. It was a deeply moving encounter filled with reflection, prayer, and anointing. Faith is not just a part of my story; it is the foundation on which it stands."

The former Minister of Food and Agriculture has officially declared his intention to join the party’s flagbearership race, following extensive nationwide consultations conducted by an exploratory team over the past month.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, after a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the lawmaker said his decision followed extensive nationwide consultations conducted by an exploratory team over the past month.

He explained that informing the General Council and Moderator of the church was a matter of principle and respect for his Christian upbringing, adding that he was also seeking divine guidance.

“…A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations, but to do that, as a product of the church, it will be a disappointment per my tradition, if the Moderator of the church hears it for the first time on the radio,” he stated.

“So, before the formal announcement is made, I thought it wise to inform the General Council and the Moderator of the Presby Church. Most importantly, I am here to also seek the blessings of God,” he noted.

The NPP is expected to elect its next flagbearer at its presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
