Dr Bawuah-Edusei launches autobiography ‘Thrived Despite The Odds’

Dr Kwame Bawuah-Edusei, physician, business executive, diplomat and philanthropist may have retired from active service, but as a legend his memoirs live on.

In the grand hall of the Christ the King Parish in Accra on Friday, Dr Kwame Bawuah-Edusei, the man whose career has impacted the Ghanaian economy and made a real difference in the world, will be sitting at the high table to launch his long-awaited autobiography - “Thrived: Despite the Odds”.

The book takes the reader through an unforgettable journey of the author’s formative years, his family life and experiences that play with the reader’s emotions, but leaves them with lessons and wisdom that are worth being bound around one’s neck to be reflected upon, day and night.

Written over a period of years, the over 200 paged book chronicles the major events that shaped his entire life after losing his father at a very tender age, and delves deep into how he surmounted politically motivated series of attacks from many quarters that threatened his hard-earned reputation and his family.



Thrived Despite the Odds also weaves a fascinating vignette of Dr Kwame Bawuah-Edusei’s life, national and international events, including details of a prolonged legal inquiry by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Government of Ghana, after he formed the EO Group with his partner George Owusu to find oil in commercial quantities in 2004 as private citizens.

Regardless of stiff opposition from many quarters, this transformational asset eventually helped Ghana move from a highly indebted poor country into a middle-income economy.

In Thrived Despite the Odds, readers will meet the child who was taunted, but ended up breaking all barriers to regain his footing after he was exonerated by the U.S. Department of Justice and Ghanaian government.

The book also seeks to inspire the youth through the lenses of the man who dedicated himself to public service and received global recognition for his immense contribution to development.



The inspirational book however ends with the triumph he always dreamed of and throws a challenge to all to “never give up” after a harrowing tale of his ups and downs in fighting his way back to the top.

The business executive and diplomat through this book elaborates how the EO Group met all the four condition precedents set out by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), which included finance, track record, qualifications and work programme at the time, despite state sponsored attacks on him (Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei) and his partner.

It is however interesting to note that after many years, the enviable record of the EO Group still stands.

The partners goal is to seek the development of businesses by the next generation to create jobs.
