Dorothy’s Hope Foundation set to hold Walkathon 2019

As the world comes to a pause to horn in on cancer from the Tuesday 1st? October to Thursday 31st October? , Dorothy’s Hope Foundation (DHF), a Ghanaian NGO is set out to do the most to help increase awareness, early detection and treatment, as well as palliative care of this disease with a Walkathon slated for 12th October, 2019 and a grand Pink Ball in December, 2019.

The foundation which was founded by Dorothy Amuah, a cancer survivor and business Executive five years ago has put together a series of events in the quest to create awareness, provide treatment and to raise funds, besides, this year will be no exception as the team has been working assiduously to make each year’s event better as compared to the previous.?

“The Walkathon is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer. From team members to volunteers, we all want to remember those we’ve lost, help those affected today, and give us a home team advantage against cancer. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, we are teaming up to make a difference. When we walk together in the fight against cancer through this fun, healthy and inspirational event, we can accomplish anything.” Words from Dorothy Amuah, CEO of Dorothy’s Hope Foundation.?

Recapping the past year’s events, the foundation has brought together more than a thousand participants ranging from business people, celebrities cancer survivors and well-meaning Ghanaians who frown on cancer and are ready to give the menace a kick away from our shore. More than two thousand people have benefited from the free screenings fused with education. Most importantly, this year's event is family oriented and organizers hereby encourage parents to come out with their whole family on the day.

At the opening press conference three months ago, the CEO announced that as part of the lineup of activities, there will be a mega concert which will bring together world class performers to drive down the word on cancer as well as a massive community outreach which was clearly demonstrated at Ho when the DHF team stormed the Ho market to screen and educate.

This year’s Walkathon and Screening is scheduled for 12th October, 2019. The start point of the walk is from Cantonments Post Office to A.M.A Head Office, Accra from 6:00 am. The day’s activity will be continued with a free breast cancer screening and sensitization at the A.M.A Head Office where the estimated number of people to be screened and educated is not less than a thousand.?

Registration on the website was opened on 1st of October, 2019 for all who would want to participate whilst merchandise for the walk will be for sale, to which announcements for availability will be made, soon as they are ready.?
