The Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, has called on Parliament to maintain the original version of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill that was passed by the Eighth Parliament, insisting that it should not be altered before it is reconsidered by the current House.
Speaking in Parliament on October 28, 2025, Jinapor said the bill, which was passed in the previous Parliament but not assented to by the president before its dissolution, should be brought back ‘in the same form and shape’ for the Ninth Parliament to consider.
“The matter that was dealt with in this House, in your absence, which the Majority Leader invited you to clarify, was of great concern to me. You resolved two matters. The first was whether or not the bill is pending and can be assented to by the president”, he said.

He commended the Speaker of Parliament for clarifying that the bill passed by the Eighth Parliament ceased to exist after its dissolution.
According to him, that position was consistent with the stance of the Minority Leader and contrary to the view earlier expressed by the Majority Leader.
Jinapor further noted that there had been discussions about making certain revisions to the bill, but said any attempt to change its substance would be unacceptable.

“Let them bring the bill as it was and as was passed by the Eighth Parliament in the same form and shape. Don’t change it. Don’t water it down. What the Ghanaian people want is to have a law which promotes good sexual conduct in Ghana and which prevents LGBTQ,” he stated.
He further stressed that Parliament must not introduce new proposals or amendments that could weaken the original intent of the legislation.
