Newly inducted members of the Ghana Dental Association have been charged by the Deputy Minister of Information Kojo Oppong – Nkrumah to take leadership roles in society and help solve dental problems affecting society.

Speaking at the 26th annual congress of the Ghana Dental Association, Mr. Oppong – Nkrumah charged the dentists to strive to make impact, despite the numerous challenges of limited resources, both human and infrastructure.

“As we celebrate with you today, please be minded by the call not just to serve but to lead. A society in which very few people are willing to step up and take up leadership positions and strive to create value in the midst of the limited resources is not a society that can make much progress,” the Member of Parliament for Ofoase – Ayirebi told the gathering.

He congratulated the 2016 class of dental surgeons on their achievement and admonished the newly qualified dentists to build the industry through their service.

He added: “The society we aspire for ourselves requires dedicated people who choose to put in more efforts despite encountering challenges to make the nation strong and proud.

“Succeeding at academic work at any level is no mean feat and to succeed at high professional academic qualification at a time where many have had to combine it with other demands of life is a feather in your cap and I congratulate you for this feat.”

President of the Ghana Dental Association, Dr. Nana Asante Appiah welcomed the dentists into the association and called on them to help the group turn around its challenges into success stories. He urged the graduates to respect the rules and regulations governing the profession.

In all, 40 newly qualified dentists were inducted at the ceremony. Twenty-two are graduates from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Dental School and 18 are from the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry.
