Don't blame us for deaths at hospital - KATH

Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital say they cannot be blamed for the deaths being recorded as a result of the ongoing strike by junior doctors, consultants and pharmacists at the facility.

So far at least eight patients according to our correspondent in the Ashanti region have been reported dead since Monday.

The doctors and pharmacists are demanding better working conditions and have vowed not to attend to new patients until their demands are met.

The Hospital management has begun informing the people of the Ashanti region not to bring fresh cases to the health post until the ongoing agitation among the workers are addressed to avert further loss of lives.

The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Kwame Frimpong in an interview with XYZ News, said there are expectations among management members that things will normalize soon.

Meanwhile, striking Pharmacists at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital say they have rescinded their decision to withdraw emergencies services at the hospital following assurances giving them by the government.

The pharmacists had earlier threatened to withdraw all essential services effective today if the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission failed to resolve their outstanding issues over their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.

But speaking to XYZ News spokesperson for the aggrieved pharmacists Robert Inkoom said though a high powered meeting between them and government officials and personnel from the national security on Tuesday was inconclusive, they are convinced their grievances will be addressed.

He however added that their ongoing strike will continue until the issues are resolved.
