Doctor donates for upkeep of AIDS patients

Akwatia, Sept 10, GNA - Dr Max B Kyei of the African Health Foundation based at Tema, has donated 250,000 cedis to the "Matthew Chapter 25 Project" an organisation at Akwatia for the upkeep of some HIV/AIDS patients.

A letter accompanying the donation to Reverend Father Alex Bobby Benson, Parish Priest of St Anthony's Catholic Church and co-ordinator of the project, Dr Kyei who works with the World Health Organisation (WHO), said victims of the disease need both physical and moral support. He stressed that in view of the astronomical increase in the number of victims, globally and in Ghana, there is the need for intensive education to sensitise the public on the disease.

Speaking to newsmen, Fr Benson said the organisation is under the auspices of St Dominic's Hospital at Akwatia. He said it aims at creating awareness that despite their predicament, victims need to be encouraged in so many ways.

The project is catering for 19 patients, he said and appealed for assistance from benevolent organisations, individuals and non-governmental organisations. Rev Fr Benson expressed appreciation for the donation and expressed the hope that others would follow.
