Do not politicize population and housing census - Chief

Gomoa Buduatta (C/R), Oct. 4, GNA - Okofo Ameresi Okai Annan, Banmuhen of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, has called on Ghanaians not to politicize the on-going population and housing census. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Gomoa Buduatta, Okofo Annan said some developments at certain parts of the country had suggested that some people wanted to politicize that important national exercise.

He expressed regret that some Ghanaians seemed to love their political lineage more than the nation itself. He pointed out that if some people would use their political affiliation to sabotage the exercise which aims at enhancing planning for national development, then Ghana's democracy had a long way to go. Okofo Annan appealed to people who had such notions to alter their thinking and co-operate to make the exercise a success. He appealed to the enumerators and the supervisors conducting the exercise to do their best to ensure that they got to the people, and urged the people to exercise patient in answering the questionnaires. The chief appealed to the Ghana Statistical Service to make the materials needed available for the execution of the exercise, saying that the complaints of shortage of material could undermine the success of the exercise.
