Mr Dzidodo Agozie, a Representative of the Non-Formal Education Department in the Volta Region, has asked the public to do away with shyness in the bid to pursue adult education.

He said persons who took up adult education built their confidence, which propelled them to achieve high laurels on the academic ladder.

He was speaking at the graduation of 54 participants who underwent adult literacy programme in Ahiagbakope, Ehi-Horme, Kuli and Adzorti communities in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region.

They were trained in batik tie and dye, liquid soup and hair pomade making, and preparation of hair and body shampoo through the support of Engage Now Africa (ENA), a non-governmental organisation.

Mr Agozie noted that in the past it was difficult for adults to attend school but now “things have changed.”

“People should take it upon themselves to undergo adult literacy programme without feeling shy because it helps build confidence, which can take them to higher levels,” he said.

Madam Cecilia Amankwah, the Country Director of ENA, said the organisation had a mission to heal the sick, rescue and uplift individuals from poverty.

She said ENA also sought to provide potable water to communities, help people to undergo adult literacy programmes, provide micro-credit facilities and eradicate modern slavery among other things.

Madam Hannah Appiah, the Skills Development Instructor, ENA, noted that most of the participants were willing to learn and achieve something useful for the benefit of their households.

Togbui Avorkli V, the Chief of Kuli, who chaired the occasion, said everyone must obtain some form of education in order to improve on quality of life.

The Chief of Kuli thanked ENA for supporting the various communities and urged the participants to make good use of what they had learnt.
