Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has cautioned that the Attorney General’s decision to discontinue the murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale could erode public confidence in Ghana’s justice system.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, he expressed concern over what he described as a growing pattern where successive governments discontinue politically sensitive or high-profile cases, especially in the early years of new administrations.

“It looks like it’s becoming a trend now that anytime there is a change in government, the government of the day would want to file nolle prosequi, particularly within the first year of its administration. I think we should be very careful not to continue this trend,” he warned.
Botchway said Ghana’s global image suffered following the death of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, adding that the current development risks reopening that painful chapter.
“The death of Ahmed Suale is still a stain on the reputation of this republic. If news travels that the AG filed a nolle prosequi because investigations were incomplete or poorly handled, it will again cast a shadow on our image as a country,” he stated.

The NPP communicator questioned how a case that had been in court for several years could suddenly be dropped due to investigative lapses, describing it as a “waste of judicial resources.”
He therefore called for sanctions against investigators who failed to perform their duties diligently.
“For the first time, the investigators must be sanctioned. It cannot be business as usual,” he stressed.
Botchway further cautioned the Attorney General’s office against rushing prosecutions to satisfy public opinion, insisting that justice must be built on thorough and credible investigations.
“We should not play to the gallery or satisfy public pressure. Let’s take our time because we are dealing with people’s rights, and many innocent people are already in jail for the wrong reasons,” he added.
The Madina District Court on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, discharged the lead suspect in the case, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, who had been charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with the killing.
Suale, a key member of the Tiger Eye P I investigative team, was shot dead by unknown assailants in January 2019.
