Disabled man receives assistance from Social Welfare

Kumasi, July 31, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Office of the Department of Social Welfare has presented a wheelchair, some clothes and 20 Ghana cedis to Mr Kwame Osei, a 35-year-old disabled man, in Kumasi. Mr Twumasi said it was the objective of the Department to give vocational skills in carpentry, masonry, hair-dressing, tailoring and vocations at its Rehabilitation Centre at Edwenase in Kumasi to enable them to become self-employed.

He appealed to disabled persons to take advantage of the opportunities and enrol at the Centre to acquire vocational skills to enable them to contribute meaningfully towards the socio-economic development of the Country.

The Regional Director said he and his staff together with the Edwenase Centre Manager would discuss the possibility of giving mr Osei accommodation to help him to do his business as a petty trader or learn some skills at the Centre.

He appealed to disabled persons to avoid begging for alms but endeavour to acquire vocational skills.

Mr Osei expressed his gratitude to the Department and appealed to individuals, churches and organizations to support the needy and vulnerable in society at all times.
