Radio presenter and media personality of Movement TV, Gordon Asare-Bediako, has recounted the circumstances surrounding his detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
In an interview on AsaasePa on April 2, 2025, Asare-Bediako explained that he had gone to the OSP’s premises after receiving a call from an officer at the anti-corruption agency requesting his presence.
He added that he was asked to provide evidence for certain claims he made about OSP boss, Kissi Agyebeng, specifically alleging that the SP had requested private jets from the former government to support his work.
“I received a call from someone who said he was an officer from the Office of the Special Prosecutor after I closed from work. He said he wanted to have a conversation with me at my workplace but I told him it won’t be possible as I wasn’t available at the time. I offered to come over to his office for the conversation which he agreed to. I also asked if the meeting required me to come along with my lawyer and he advised me to do so if I wish to.
“When I got there, they detained me till an officer came to speak to me. He told me that I went on air to give an information that the OSP had requested for private jets which they said wasn’t factual. He questioned me where I got the info from which I told him I can’t recall who exactly gave me the info. They accused me of leveling corruption allegations against the OSP,” he said.
Asare-Bediako further stated that he was charged with two counts of false publication and false communication.
He was later granted bail in the amount of GH¢5 million.
“They charged me with two charges, false publication and false communication setting my bail bond at GH¢5million,” he added.
Asare-Bediako has since threatened legal action against the OSP for what he has described as wrongful detention.
“I have instructed my lawyer to go through the books and find out where I could sue the OSP for wrongful detention because I am not sure the OSP has the mandate to request a journalist to give a source,” Asare-Bediako stated.
