Depreciating cedi to push fuel prices up – COMAC CEO

Fuel prices could go up, says the COMAC CEO Fuel prices could go up, says the COMAC CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), Dr Riverson Oppong, has projected that fuel prices might increase in the second pricing window of September.

According to him, this is due to the recent depreciation of the Ghana cedi and the robust nature of the country's energy sector.

“The pricing outlook is out, and we have seen some increase. We are still waiting for the floor price to determine what variables are changing. But from the outlook, you can see the cedi has depreciated a bit, which will obviously affect the pricing from Monday,” he remarked, as quoted by citinewsroom.com.

Fuel prices have seen some marginal increases in the last pricing windows due to instabilities in the sector.

Dr Oppong noted that the chamber is expecting some solid reforms for the sector to ensure that it becomes profitable for the country.

“It is a bit dicey in the country called Ghana. We are looking forward to having very solid and comprehensive policies that will ensure the energy sector is paying for itself, paying its dues, and even contributing to the economy of this country,” Dr Riverson Oppong subsequently added.
